At the recent Conference on Medicine, Science, and Safety in Freediving held in Dahab, Prof. Marija Anđelković and Prof. Nenad Dikić discussed the complexities of anti-doping, including the potential misuse of benzodiazepines in our sport.
While some substances have been linked to freediving, scientific evidence on the performance effects of benzodiazepines is still lacking.
In 2024 alone, AIDA took proactive steps by collecting 56 samples from athletes to better understand this issue.
🥳 Since the conference, AIDA’s research project on benzodiazepines has received official funding approval from WADA, marking a significant step toward solid insights and aligning freediving with global anti-doping standards.
👉 Watch this teaser to learn more about doping controls, safeguarding the integrity of freediving, and the future of clean sport in our community.
